Ira David Sankey (1840-1908) was an American
Gospel singer and composer of music for such hymns as "Faith
Is the Victory," "Trusting Jesus," "Under His Wings," and "The
Ninety and Nine." Associate with D. L. Moody in evangelistic work in the U.S. and abroad as solo singer/music director.Born Aug. 28, 1840 in Edinburg, Pennsylvania — Died Aug 13, 1908 in Brooklyn, New York. |

Ira Sankey married Fanny V. Edwards, one of his choir members, September
9, 1863. They had three sons: Henry, the oldest, John Edward, and
